Best Instrument for Singers?

There are a lot of things that you must consider when you are choosing an instrument to complement your singing. But none of them are really hard questions to answer.

You should think about portability, affordability, and technical difficulty. Portability will ensure that you are able to carry your instrument around when the time comes, affordability is for people who can’t spend a fortune on an instrument and technical difficulty needs to be taken into consideration that you need an instrument to complement your singing and nothing else.

Of course, there is a lot to be said about all these things, and just a little bit to understand as well, let’s get reading.

Portability

One of the most important factors is going to be its portability.

Portability is going to ensure whether or not you are able to carry this instrument to the places that you are going to perform or to a friend’s house.

If that is not possible then you have to think twice about how are you going to transport your instrument or whether the venue will provide you with an instrument you want to play.

Only in the worst-case scenario, you will be a broke singer who plays the drums and the venue is not going to provide you with the drum set.

So every time that you have to go and play somewhere you have to carry all of the drum set, fit it in a car, and then drive to the venue and unload your drum set there and be able to perform.

Of course, that is imaginary and most of the time the worst-case scenario for the singer is going to be having to carry a digital keyboard. For the most part, it is fairly easy to carry around on lesson until you have something really huge but even then compared to anything else this is far better.

Affordability

This is for the person who is going to be investing in an instrument and needs to look at various things. One of them is definitely how much it costs. As you can imagine guitars and digital pianos start anywhere from $100 and can go anywhere to give you a heart attack.

I would highly recommend keeping your search results between mid-tier instruments ranging from $200-500 and of course premium range can be anything.

There is nothing wrong with either but I will suggest if you’ve never had an instrument before that I suggest buying a new mid-tier one.

But if you have an instrument before why not go for…

Used Instruments?

It does require you to have knowledge of how your instrument works but even if you don’t you can actually take a friend along who has better knowledge than you and check a used instrument for you.

This can really work in your favor if you want to buy a high-tier instrument at a discounted price.

Popular Choices

The most famous choices for instruments for singers I want are the ukulele guitars and digital piano.

Out of all the three, I think the guitar is the most practical one. There is virtually no limit to the song choices for playing on the guitar and it is fairly easy to learn and also allows you to carry it around anywhere you want to.

As for the digital piano, make sure it’s digital so that you’re able to carry it around. This is just as much on par with the guitar. If you’re not divided between the two, choose the one that you have any prior experience with. It will help a lot.

If you don’t then choose the one you’re getting a good deal on, there are virtually no wrong answers here. It’s hard to predict which one will bring you more fame but I don’t think it matters.

But if you do however have time on your hands, I suggest you learn more than one instrument. Singers seem to benefit the most from this. When you do finally sit down to write your own songs, this will help you tremendously.

Technical Difficulty

Things that you need to take into account are the technical difficulties that you will face while learning the instrument it is not something that should deter you at all from learning the instrument. It is something that you just have to get over with practice and keep up to the point where it will start helping you in your ability to sing.

So regardless of what instrument you pick, if you’ve picked it up for the purpose of accompanying you singing then you have to learn that instrument with that goal in mind. It would be highly time-effective in the long run.

And with that comes the last part of the article where I give you the resources you can learn singing from. And to that end, I have written about why online courses are really the way to go for the majority of people regardless of where they may find themselves in their singing career. You can read it here.

Would You Like to Sing?

I am just going to take a chance and ask if you’ve ever wondered if you’d like to learn to sing. I have curated a good list of courses (with their prices) so that you can make a thoughtful choice in educating yourself in learning how to sing.
