Do Singing Exercises Work?

Is it like lifting weights? I hope not because that kinds of exercises are so tiring, luckily that’s not how singing exercises work, and knowing how to use them will change your life.

Singing exercises work. They can take you from not knowing how to sing to being able to discern what it is that you ought to do to be able to sing a certain thing. These exercises are what singing is built on and something that you use to gauge your progress as you practice to improve your singing.

They really do work. So, let’s find out more about how you can use them to not just become better but also how they benefit you in other areas of music.

They’re Part of Something Bigger

Singing exercises are great because they give you smaller detached pieces of something that is actually used in singing. The more you are proficient at using these smaller parts which we call exercises the better you are at singing as a whole.

Because when you sit down to sing or stand up, you will realize that the exercises that you have warmed up to and the things that you have done in your practice are used everywhere and now you get to use them in context whenever you sing a song or prepare for one.

The best aspect of these exercises is that they are bite-sized pieces. This means they are easier to perform and easier to learn, which allows you to master them at a consistent rate and is something that you can do fairly easily.

This also means that you see consistent results in your singing and something you should definitely strive for if you haven’t yet. At the end of the article, you will find resources that you can use to become a better singer.

They Combine Different Things

Because they are a bite-sized version of something you use in everyday life, you have to remember that when you combine two skills you get something bigger.

Take this, for example, good posture is one technique, and singing higher notes is another. You need to combine them both to do one thing very effectively.

Imagine all the things that you can learn to mix and match with your techniques and skill to achieve the impossible limitless possibilities of singing and you can learn to do that from singing exercises.

After you’ve understood this in practice, you can come up with exercises yourself when you’re listening to a song and can break down the skills and the exercises you must perform in order to reach that goal.

It’s no longer theoretical but something you’ve experienced by doing exercises and now you can replicate real results.

Replicate Real Results

And here we are, replicating real results.

If you can understand how every exercise works and how important it is to do them, there isn’t going to be a song you cannot cover. Imagine that.

You can use this to even teach yourself and also teach other people and spread the amazing news that singing is indeed for everyone. The key factor still remains that doing exercises ends in replicating real results.

You have to try it yourself sometime and try to break down a song for yourself to understand this in the fashion that I am speaking but that is not all.

Going Further

You can go further and reach the end goal f learning music, which in my opinion is to create it.

You will be using this to compose your own songs or musical pieces.

Isn’t that something?

Starting from nothing but exercises and seeing them in the light of how it’s used in other songs, having the ability to break these said songs into smaller sizes as exercises, getting that experience, and ending up composing your own stuff.

Wow.

Knowledge is Important

Knowledge is the only thing that determines if you’re aware of what you’re doing. Fortunately, it is easy.

If you’re consistent none of the things that I am mentioning to you are going to harm you but only help you with it.

What you need to make it a complete circle and for your exercise to make more sense is music theory and ear training.

These two things are something you should definitely have in your arsenal. These two things are going to determine your ability to understand music not only just how you listen to sound but also how to rationalize it to the point where you should be able to understand and explain what and how you’re singing.

Exercises

And the way they come together is that you can and should use your voice to understand and replicate these things so that you are able to become better at music theory and ear training.

You’re already singing and might as well give the things that you will learn in music theory and ear training a sound that you can replicate with your voice and are able to practice not just by singing but by understanding them through music theory and ear training.

Singing Lessons Work Too

Just like exercises, it is important to know that singing lessons work too. It is beyond the scope of this article to provide complete lessons and therefore I am a believer in online courses.

If you just want my suggestion for it, I wholeheartedly support ‘The Four Pillars of Singing’.

But here is the list of all the courses along with their prices and what they offer you.

You can opt for whichever you feel like, I would say that if you’re serious about learning how to sing then you must at least have a singing course in your library and it will greatly improve your chances of becoming better as a singer.

One thing you must understand is that just like exercises are necessary, good well put together lessons will really have a positive impact on your singing and you ought to strive to get them, especially the price you’re going to pay for them. I’ve given my two cents and whatever you end up deciding, I wish you all the best with your singing endeavors.
