Posting on social media is almost a necessity regardless of how famous you are. This is how modern-day marketing works for singers. If you’re not willing to cope then you are willing to let go of all the benefits it provides to you.
The best way to showcase your talent on Instagram is to start by doing covers consistently. Then focus on your production quality by recording yourself better. Then eventually start to release your own songs to your followers, it’s a slow process that relies on consistency for success.
Let’s dive a little bit deeper and see what everything is and how they are going to help you get better and present yourself to the world!
Covers
For the most part, you will be posting covers on Instagram. That’s really the heavy lifting of things. It allows you to be found easily as you sing songs that people are already familiar with.
If you’re active in any genre or artist you would like to sing like, now is the time to show off your practice and increase your followers.
Keeping Up with Trends
I think there is a balance to be struck. The right amount of content of what you ought to do and the right amount of what people would like to hear.
There really is no way to go about it other than this. That’s the compromise but only if you allow it to be so. At some level, you must try to do things that are in demand so that you can eventually do things that you wish to and how your audience perceives you.
This practice essentially keeps you from going irrelevant. The online world is very fast-paced. Yesterday is history and if you’re not the social media trends then you are sadly, behind.
To go against it is to risk not being known for what you do. It’s that brutal. You and I just know that the currency with which people accept artists online is through social media. On the surface, it’s as simple as that but it peels its layers as it goes on how wonderfully it works. Hit snooze and we will definitely lose.
Music Production
When you’re first starting out it’s okay if you record yourself with just your phone’s mic or through your earphones. Initially, it works and these days they sound really good.
Eventually, though, you have to start to dive into a little bit of music production. The easiest way to do that is through a DAW, a digital audio workstation. If you’re completely new to this then DAWs are how modern professional music is recorded all throughout the world.
DAW is software. This means it’s only limited by your computer’s existing hardware. Luckily for us, we don’t need that much computing power to start our music production journey.
I think the best part about a DAW is that there is no barrier to entry when you want to explore or learn more about music production, just like online courses.
Sound Better – Way Better
Yes, DAWs will allow you to sound better. I am not talking about auto-tune but decent mixing that will do a lot of favors to your voice to sound ‘better’ when sitting in a particular arrangement.
For beginners, mixing is the process where you tweak frequencies, compression, reverb, and many other things that allows the whole song to sound better than it did before.
That is essentially the job of a mixing engineer. You should learn bits and pieces of it even if you’re not planning on becoming one professionally because it’s going to make you sound better.
Quick Results
It’s time better spent learning a DAW and learning to master how to start making covers than it is relying on someone else or just phone quality. Eventually, as you learn to mix your own songs, you’d start to get good-quality results faster and faster.
It gets more fun too. You’ll be able to know what to do even before you sit down, and what something should sound like. It’s quite fun to record yourself as well.
Haters will Hate
There is no denying that regardless of how you perform, good, bad, or the best you could’ve done, someone out there is going to try to take you down with their silly comments. Not everyone is a fan and not everyone should be.
That’s the drawback you have to bear when you’re putting yourself out there and you are willing to accept all the opportunities that can arise from going on the internet but a little bad comes along with it too.
You should be aware so that you don’t allow it to take over you and cause you sleepless nights. You should welcome it as fighting it is not an option. Only overcoming it is.
Consistency
You must be consistent with your posting and must keep your followers up to date with regular content. You definitely need to keep on evolving as the world does. Taking a few days off is fine but taking long periods of time off isn’t. You can also batch your content and expect your team to upload it for you.
Change is the only constant is what my teacher told me. It’s very true. Those who embrace it will learn that is how the modern-day world works. Technologies are fast evolving and changing the way we communicate, those who stay on top of the game will reap the most benefits.
Sing Better
If you’re someone who has been singing for just a while now, I would like you to read this article. I talk about why online courses are important. While I completely understand why you would want to sing on social media and get the required attention for what you do it is increasingly important that you are able to sing well.
If you are looking for a course on how to sing better I would recommend reading this particular page which I wrote for you to choose a course for yourself. Pick the one that suits your needs and budget.
I personally own a copy of ‘The Four Pillars of Singing‘ (affiliate link). The book is included in the purchase.
If you had to spend money on anything wouldn’t it be best to spend it on something that would educate and make you a better singer?
I think it’s a good investment to have and something everyone should have in their library.
All the best to your social media excursions!
