Where Can I Practice Singing?

That is a nice question. I have practiced in so many places that I can’t put them in this article. You’d be surprised how many places you can practice if you’re creative.

You can practice singing wherever you will find peace to practice. You need a minimum of 30 minutes of alone time. You can do it in your home or you can go someplace early in the morning but having your practice and knowing what to do during your practice time is crucial.

So, without wasting too much time let’s dive right into this one!

Wherever You Can

If you are in your own home, this applies to even if you’re in an apartment, try to find some time that nobody else is around or try changing your schedule.

Try not to do it in your bedroom because you associate that place with watching movies and sleeping and if possible you should try to find another space that you can assign to your practice.

However, I understand this is not something that is possible for everyone to do. The best thing you can do is find the time.

Find a time when you are alone and no one will disturb you. This is important because you want to make the best of what you can do in a limited time.

If being in your home is not possible then I suggest you reach a park early in the morning and reach there to practice your singing. No harm done and you can do a lot if you have your phone with you. So that you can play your exercises and copy them.

I have written in another article here how much you ought to practice I think this one is going to surprise you.

Alternatives

If parks and practicing at your home are not good options for you then you have to get creative.

You can practice singing intervals or keep something ready to go if you’re commuting and you can practice in your car. Not a bad thing since you will be able to practice singing intervals.

You can make friends or make your friends practice singing along with you. Though I have to tell you this, differences of opinion will arise and you will want to separate ways at some point.

Hire a place where you can be alone. Maybe go rent a garage or somewhere where you will truly be left alone to practice. You might be wondering if these are ‘extreme’ measures but in reality, they are not.

You might ask why and I will say this to you, practice works. Okay?

It works because it works, if you put in the time and you are willing to get creative about where you ought to practice then I know for a fact that you will find a place where you can sing and practice to your heart’s desire.

If all of the options are not for you then I suggest you find an abandoned spot but I have already mentioned that you can go to a park.

For the rest of the article, I am going to talk about practice and preparation and at the end, I will provide resources for you to learn.

Prepare Your Mix

You should be prepared.

First, the thing that will determine your success is knowledge

Once you are aware of what you ought to practice then that naturally be the thing that you will practice.

Second, if it is a technique that you are practicing, then you have to pay close attention to what your instructor is teaching you. Yes, you need someone to teach you otherwise you’re roaming in the dark. You can read about it here. Here, if you need to know if you can get better with practice.

If your teacher is doing, standing, telling you that this is the posture you need to stand, this is the facial structure that you need to have to create this sound, then you have to pay very close attention.

The reason is even if you open your mouth and you sit properly and you start to sing, it may not work because that’s not the correct technique.

Technique is the way that you make a sound.

So, on a guitar when you make a sound by using your hands. A piano is the same way but of course, the technique is different.

On piano, you lay your hands down on the instrument; on a guitar, it’s across. There is a back and forth between guitar and piano, there are up and down gravitational things. That’s why it feels more natural to us.

That’s why it’s harder for some people to gravitate toward the guitar.

But all of that is technique.

Why Knowing is Important

Techniques show immediately. If your form and posture for a particular exercise in the gym are not correct you should know about it. You don’t want to do some exercise with weights in the wrong posture. It will over time make it worse.

The same is true for singing.

If you don’t follow the technique correctly, you are going to end up with incorrect results from the start. Which can develop into bad habits that need double correction.

The first correction will be of you knowing that it is wrong.

Second correction of learning the better technique.

So, if you are not standing correctly if your mouth posture is not correct, if your breathwork isn’t up to the point, then the whole idea of you standing and doing the technique won’t result in the same sound.

How to Know What to Practice

There are various ways to get knowledgeable about things.

The first and foremost way to know better about something is through reading and watching about it. But, when you take lessons you are being educated simultaneously in both practice and the underlying knowledge.

When you are taught, you are also being explained how to perform a certain technique.

Online Courses

Online courses will teach you everything there is to know to learn how to sing. The major issue is of knowing a really good course that will help you get better at singing.

I am just going to give my own recommendation and then you can make the choice for yourself.

The Four Pillars of Singing’ is something that I would recommend if you’re looking for something that you won’t have to update. The course is taught by Robert Lunte and you should definitely consider it and the reason I can tell you that you ought to go for it is that I own it personally.

You can see all the courses offered by Robert Lunte here.

I hope you learned something here and strive to become a better singer!
